Lady Tigers Tied for Third after Day One at Lady Red Wolf Classic

JONESBORO, Ark.—Leslie Grabeman, coming off a top-10 finish last week at the Cincinnati Fall Classic, fired rounds of 78-74 to lead the University of Memphis Women’s Golf Team in the 2009 Lady Red Wolf Classic. Grabeman’s day one total of 152 currently has her in a tie for fourth. “As you saw at Cincinnati, Leslie’s game is very good right now,” said Lady Tiger head coach Beth Harrelson. “Not only is she playing well, but she’s setting an example for the rest of the team.” Marissa Steen is one stroke back of Grabeman after posting rounds of 77-76. She is currently in a tie for eighth. Freshman Julia Hodgson, playing in just her second career event, is in a tie for 40th after shooting rounds of 83-81. Kathleen Glavin (80-87) and Sarah Mathews (90-80) are in T49 and T56, respectively. Caitlin McDonald, who is competing as an individual for Memphis, is in 71st after rounds of 96-101. Memphis is currently in a three-way tie for third with South Alabama and Troy in the team competition after posting team totals of 315-314 on day one. “I’m very pleased with our performance out there today,” said Coach Harrelson. “We’re going to go out there tomorrow and play our game, and hopefully we can move up the leader board.” Arkansas State, the tournament’s host school, leads after posting score of 308-304 on day one. Murray State (316-304) is eight shots back in second. Cassie Huffer (Ark. State) leads the individual competition after carding rounds of 75-74 at Jonesboro Country Club. Jennifer Welch (Ark. State) is one stroke back in second. The 2009 Lady Red Wolf Classic concludes tomorrow, October 13 with the playing of the third round.
