Glavin and Steen Lead Memphis at Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C.—Marissa Steen posted the 13th top-20 finish of her career and third top-10 of the season en route to leading Memphis to a sixth place finish at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. Steen posted scores of 76-71-70—217 and finished in a tie for third position. The junior from West Chester, Ohio has already posted finishes of sixth (Cincinnati Fall Classic) and first (Bobcat Invitational). Steen was joined in the top-10 by fellow Ohioan Kathleen Glavin, who carded scores of 75-73-73. She led the field in par-three scoring (2.82) en route to a 10th place showing. “I’m really proud of Kathleen (Glavin) and Marissa (Steen),” Memphis head coach Beth Harrelson said. “Everyone fought hard out there.” Sarah Mathews finished in a tie for 37th with a 54-hole total of 230 (79-77-74). Julia Hodgson (75-79-77—231) and Alex Aläng (76-78-79—233) finished in ties for 44th and 54th, respectively. Memphis posted team scores 302-299-294—895 to finish sixth out of 16 teams at Greenville Country Club. Maryland posted a 54-hole total of 876 (292-294-290) to defeat runner-up and tournament-host East Carolina (291-301-289—881) by five strokes. The Lady Tigers return home and have two weeks off before hosting the Memphis Women’s Invitational Oct. 25-26 at Ridgeway Country Club. The event returns to the schedules after an eight year hiatus. Memphis won the last playing of the tournament, carding a 54-hole total of 915 to defeat 11 other schools.
