Aläng Places 11th at Mercedes Benz Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's golf team wrapped play at the Mercedes Benz Championships on Sunday with a final round score of 318. The Lady Tigers finished the tournament in 15th place with a three-day total of 943. Alex Aläng led Memphis all weekend and finished with her best round of the season, an even-par 72.
Aläng started her day on the back nine and posted birdies on the par four 10th and par five 18th to card a one-under 35 on the back nine. The senior then posted a one-over 37 on the front nine for a total of 72. She ended the tournament tied for 11th place with a three-day total of 218.
Natalie Turk carded the best score of her career when she finished with a two-over 74. She posted a one-under 35 on the back nine before shooting 39 on the front. She finished the tournament with a total of 237 in a tie for 68th place.
Shelby Sain and Ashley Kees followed with final round scores of 87 and 86, respectively. Sain finished tied for 75th with a total 242 while Kees shot 248 to place tied for 83rd. Sarah Mathews rounded out the Lady Tigers' squad with a total of 254 after shooting 86 in the final round.
Julia Gerlach carded a final round 80 to finish 74th with a total of 241 in her first collegiate tournament.
Memphis will be in action again when they host their home tournament, the FedEx Memphis Women's Intercollegiate. The tournament will take place at Ridgeway Country Club on October 22 and 23.
