MEMPHIS, Tenn. -In the final round of the FedEx Memphis Women's Intercollegiate, the University of Memphis women's golf team improved on their score from the first two rounds. The Lady Tigers posted a 305 at Ridgeway Country Club to finish in third place. Alex Aläng led the Lady Tigers with a sixth place finish after shooting 227.

Aläng carded shot a one-over 36 on the front nine with one birdie and registered a pair of birdies on the back nine to shoot 38. The senior ended the day with a total of 74 on the par 71 course. Julia Hodgson played consistent golf all three rounds as she closed with a final round 79 to finish tied for 16th with a total of 233.

Ashley Kees and Sarah Mathews followed as the duo finished 21st (235) and 24th (237), respectively. Kees posted a final round of 77 while Hodgson registered a one-under 35 on the back nine to finish with her best score of the tournament, a 75. Julia Gerlach rounded out the Lady Tigers' squad with an 86.

Memphis also had three golfers compete as individuals and Ashleigh Whisenant led that group with a 13th place finish. She shot one-over 36 on the front nine and ended with a 77 for a tournament total of 232. Natalie Turk came next with a finish of 26th after posted an 80 in the final round, and Shelby Sain shot a final round 78 to finish in 40th place.

For the second straight year, Samford University won the team title. The Bulldogs shot 304-302-307 for a total of 913. Samford's Natalie Mitchell was the individual medalist after shooting 71-74-75 for a total of 220. Xavier University finished second at 927 while Memphis place third at 932.

Memphis will next take the course on October 30 and 31 when the play in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational in Oahu, Hawaii.
