Lady Tigers Claim Share of Second at Memphis Women's Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn.--The University of Memphis women's golf team battled inclement weather and soggy conditions to finish in a tie for second at the Memphis Women's Invitational. Teams returned to Ridgeway Country Club Tuesday morning to finish the second round, which was suspended Monday evening due to darkness. Players were able to finish round two, but the third round was cancelled due to impending inclement weather. Illinois (314-301--615) posted a second round team score of 301 to leapfrog first round leader Memphis and claim the victory. Missouri State turned in scores of 310-311 to share runners-up honors with the Lady Tigers. Memphis was paced by Marissa Steen, who carded scores of 75-77--152 to finish in a tie for fifth position. It was Steen's second straight top-five finish and the 14th top-20 showing of her career. Kathleen Glavin (77-79) and Alex Aläng (76-80) posted a 36-hole totals of 156 (77-79) and finished in a tie for 19th place. Julia Hodgson (77-80--157) and Sarah Mathews (80-80) finished in ties for 25th and 32nd, respectively. The Lady Tigers have one more event scheduled before breaking for the winter. They will travel to Gulf Shores, Ala. to defend their title at the UAB Fall Beach Blast Nov. 2-3. The Lady Tigers won the 2009 UAB Fall Beach Blast Sarah Mathews's (74-73) second place individual finish.
