Aläng Finishes Third, Lady Tigers Finish 6th at Rainbow Wahine Invite

WAHIAWA, O'ahu - Following their lowest round of the year, the University of Memphis women's golf team almost matched it on Wednesday in the final round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. The Lady Tigers posted a 301 to finish in sixth place with a season-low tournament total of 908. Alex Aläng led Memphis with a third place finish after carding a 74 in the third round. Aläng started the day tied for second place, and she got off to a good start, birdying her second hole. She came back a little, but finished with a birdie to post a two-over 74. She finished with a tournament total of 219, finishing just one stroke out of first place. Ashley Kees wasn't far behind Aläng in the final round, carding a 75 for her best round of the tournament. Kees finished with a tournament total of 238. Julia Hodgson and Sarah Mathews followed with a pair of 76's in the final round. Hodgson carded 38's on the front and back nine while Mathews carded a one-over 37 on the front nine. Hodgson finished 16th with a total of 227 and Mathews shot 232 to place 33rd. Natalie Turk rounded out the Lady Tigers' squad with 77, carding a one-over 37 on the back nine. Turk finished in 33rd place with a total of 232. Florida International won the Rainbow Wahine Invitational with a total of 895, and Toledo finished second at 897. Florida International's Shelby Coyle won on a playoff with Eastern Michigan's Sarah Johnson. The duo tied at the end of regulation with scores of 218. This concludes Memphis' fall season, the Lady Tigers will be in action again on March 15-17 at the Insperity Lady Jaguar in Augusta, Ga.
