Nov. 1, 2011
GULF SHORES, Ala. - Behind a career-best performance from senior Kathleen Glavin, the University of Memphis women's golf team successfully won the UAB Fall Beach Blast team title for the third consecutive season, Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers swept the top three positions and turned in a 36-hole score of (300-303-603) at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club to claim their second team victory of the season.
Glavin, who fired a career-best 72 in the first round, concluded competition on Tuesday by shooting a 76 in her final 18 holes of play. Fellow senior Marissa Steen (77-73--150) overcame uncharacteristic first round struggles to finish second overall, marking her third top-5 performance of the season.
Junior Alex Aläng (76-75--151) rounded out Memphis' all-tournament team honorees by finishing tied for third place with Southern Miss' Vicky Correa and UAB's Caitlin Watts.
Southern Miss (318-312--630) finished second at annual UAB event, while UAB (309-323--632) earned third-place honors.
With the title, the Lady Tigers have concluded the fall portion of their 2011-12 season.
The team will now break for winter, returning to the course for the spring portion of their schedule on Feb. 13-14 at the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla.
