MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis junior women's golfer Dawn-Marie Conaty sits one stroke out of first place after the first round of the America's Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational on Monday. Conaty's 2-over-par 74 led the Lady Tigers to a fourth-place finish in the opening round at Forest Hills Golf Club, six strokes behind third-place East Carolina. Georgia State's Joanna Klatten turned in a 1-over-par 73 to relegate Conaty and Augusta State's Amanda Smith to a tie for second. Should Conaty rally for the victory, it would mark the first time in her career she claimed medalist honors. Conaty was joined by sophomore Rachel Larson and senior Cameron Barber in giving Memphis three golfers in the top 20 entering the final round. Larson carded an 8-over-par 80 in Monday's first round to tie for 17th, and Barber was right on her heels with a 9-over-par 81 and a tie for 20th place. Senior Kathryn O'Rourke finished just one stroke away from giving the Lady Tigers four golfers in the top-20. O'Rourke's 10-over-par 82 put her in a tie for 27th, just one stroke behind the 20th place Barber. Senior Stacey Tate recorded a first-round 12-over-par on day one to round out the Memphis lineup. The Auckland, New Zealand, native sits three strokes out of the top-20 after recording an 84 on Monday.
Tuesday's final round will begin with an 18 hole shotgun start at 7:00 a.m. central time at Forest Hills Golf Club. 4) Memphis 317 |
