MEMPHIS — The University of Memphis women’s golf team is set to open its spring schedule Sunday, Feb. 13, as it tees off in the 2011 UCF Challenge at the par-72 6,319-yard RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.

The Lady Tigers closed the fall season on a high note by defending their title at the UAB Fall Beach Blast with season-low scores of 292-300 that beat out runner-up Louisiana-Monroe by 21 strokes. Marissa Steen led the way for Memphis by firing scores of 73-70 amidst rainy and soggy conditions to capture her second individual title of the season.

This year’s UCF Challenge features a very strong field as nine teams participating this week qualified for the 2010 NCAA Regionals. 14 of the 17 teams are ranked in the top-100 in the country by GolfStat, including Memphis, which currently ranked 80th.

The Lady Tigers tee off in the 2011 UCF Challenge Sunday morning at 8:30 am. Live scoring is available for the event via www.golfstat.com.
