MEMPHIS - The University of Memphis women's golf team will take the first step toward defending its 2007 conference championship when they open their spring season at the Fighting Camel Classic Feb 25-26. The event will be held in Buies Creek, N.C. and hosted by Campbell University.

"This team has worked really hard and we're just excited to get started," said Memphis head coach Jenny Bruun. "We have a talented group who is looking forward to going out and competing."

Bruun received 2007 Conference USA Coach of Year Honors after her team captured the conference championship. The Lady Tigers are led by seniors Dawn Marie-Conaty and Meghan Mahoney. The lone junior on the team is Rachel Larson. Conaty and Larson received all-conference honors last year for their performances at the conference tournament. The Lady Tigers welcome a couple of sophomore transfers, Leslie Grabeman and Taylor Bunnell. Grabeman, a transfer out of the University of Minnesota will make her debut with the Lady Tigers this spring. Bunnell transferred from the University Alabama prior to the 2007 fall campaign. Freshman Alexa Porter was a solid performer in 2007 fall competition.
