TOURNAMENT CENTRAL: @MemphisWGolf Opens 2014 Spring Season

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women’s golf team opens the 2014 spring season on Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 24-25) at the USA Women’s Invitational in Mobile, Ala.
During the fall season, Kees participated in all five events and posted top-35 finishes in each event. The Fort Wayne, Ind. native enters the spring season with a streak of 10 consecutive rounds in the 70s or lower.
At the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational (Oct. 20-22), Kees posted an 11th-place finish after shooting a 70-78-68 – 216. At that event, Kees set a career-best 18 hole-score with her third round 68, and a career-best 54-hole score of 216.
Cabush enters her first collegiate spring season after participating in all five fall events. The freshman averaged 76.2 strokes per round, and posted nine rounds of 76 or lower in the fall. Cabush posted a career-best sixth-place finish at the FedEx Memphis Women’s Intercollegiate to open the season. The Waukesha, Wis. native posted a low round of 73 in round one of the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational on Oct. 20.
Gerlach will be playing in her fourth event this season. The sophomore posted two career-best rounds of 73 in the fall. At the FedEx Memphis Women’s Intercollegiate, Gerlach shot a final-round 73 to finish the event tied for 31st. In her second event of the season, the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, Gerlach also carded a final round of 73. Gerlach finished the fall season with a 30th-place finish at the UAB Fall Beach Blast on Oct. 28-29.
During the fall season, Shelby Sain shot in the 70s in 11 of the 14 rounds she participated in. Sain opened the season with an 11th-place finish at the FedEx Memphis Women’s Intercollegiate, after shooting a 76-75-75 -226. The Bolivar, Tenn. native also posted top-30 finishes at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational and the UAB Fall Beach Blast, and shot a career-best round of 72 in round two of the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational.
Whisenant is the fourth Memphis golfer to have participated in all five fall events. Whisenant posted three top-40 finishes and a career-best score of 229 at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational. Like Sain, Whisenant shot in the 70s in 11 of her 14 rounds this fall.
South Alabama is serving as the host of the tournament, which is being played at the Azalea City Golf Course in Mobile, Ala. Fifteen teams are participating in the two-day event:
