Leighann Cabush Named American Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week
Feb. 26, 2014
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis women's golfer Leighann Cabush was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Cabush earns the honor after winning the USA Women's Invitational on Feb. 24-25 in Mobile, Ala. The freshman shot a 220 (73-73-74) and won by two strokes in the event. The 54-hole score of 220 is a career-best for Cabush and just one stroke away from being one of the 21 best 54-hole scores in program history.
The Lady Tigers also took home the team title at the USA Women's Invitational, the first win for the team this season. Memphis finished with a team score of 905 (300-304-301) and finished two shots ahead of Jacksonville State.
The award for Cabush is the first individual conference honor for Memphis this season. The Waukesha, Wis. native becomes the first Lady Tiger to win a conference player of the week award since Alex Aläng won two Conference USA Player of the Week awards last season (Oct. 17, 2012 and Nov. 7, 2012).
Cabush and the Lady Tigers return to action on Mar. 10-11 at the Lady Eagle Classic in Hattiesburg, Miss.
