Lady Tigers Travel to Mobile for USA Lady Jaguar Invitational
Feb. 27, 2010
Preston McClellan, Undergraduate Assistant - MEMPHIS, Tenn.—The University of Memphis women’s golf team travels to Mobile, Ala. to play in the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational Monday and Tuesday. The event is hosted by South Alabama and is played at the Azalea City Golf Club (par 72, 6,051 yards.) This is the second event of the spring for the Lady Tigers. Memphis finished 15th at the Hurricane Invitational earlier this month. Marissa Steen led Memphis in that event, shooting a career-low 69 in the second round and grabbing a share of 13th. There are a total of 16 teams competing in 54-hole event: UAB, Alabama State, Centenary, Florida International, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, Lamar, Marshall, Memphis, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Stetson, Troy, West Florida and Winthrop. “I expect us to have a good showing,” said Memphis head coach Beth Harrelson. “This is a very young squad—three freshmen and two sophomores—but, it just shows the future is bright. The key this week will be our patience with the big greens down here.” Competition will begin Monday with an 8:30 am (CT) shotgun start. Teams will play 36 holes Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
