PINEHURST, N.C.- The University of Memphis women's golf team is in 19th place after the first round of the Pinehurst Challenge. The event is hosted by the College of Charleston.

Freshman Alexa Porter paced the Lady Tigers with a 77 and is currently tied for 14th place. Junior Rachel Larson and senior Dawn-Marie Conaty both shot an 83 to tie for 65th. Sophomore Leslie Grabeman rounded the scoring for the squad firing an 87. Memphis posted a team score of 330 on day one.

East Tennessee State is the early leader in the tournament, shooting a 307 as a team in the first round. Tennessee Chattanooga is currently in second after a posting a 311. Steffi Kirchmayr of College of Charleston and Christine Wolf of Tennessee-Chattanooga share the lead after 18 holes after they each carded a 73.

Memphis will continue play in the Pinehurst Challenge on Monday.
