Women's Golf Rounds Out Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate Play
March 17, 2013 AUGUSTA, Ga. - - The University of Memphis women's golf team posted their best round of the tournament on Sunday in the third and final round of the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta. Memphis posted a team score of 319 (+31) to finish 18th among the tough tournament field. Purdue University, the No. 16 ranked team in the country, fired a +2 on Sunday to finish first in the tournament field, while No. 9 Vanderbilt (+13), No. 26 Notre Dame (+24) and No. 22 Texas (+35) rounded out the top five finishing teams. Julia Hodgson led the Lady Tigers, finishing +17 to finish in a tie for 43rd among the individual players. Hodgson posted a 74 (+2) on Sunday, birdying 18 to move up in the standings. After posting a +2 on the front nine, she shot par on the back nine. Alex Aläng finished in a tie for 79th with an 81 (+9). After posting a +8 on Saturday, teammate Ashleigh Whisenant just missed matching her Saturday mark, posting a +9 on Sunday. Whisenant recorded her first birdie of the tournament on Sunday, birdying 11. Shelby Sain rounded out the Memphis scorers, matching her Saturday mark at +17 on Sunday. The Lady Tigers will spend the rest of March off the competition circuit, and next step into tournament play at the Rebel Intercollegiate in Oxford, Miss., April 5-7.
