Lady Tigers Set to Play in Lady Eagle Invitational
March 20, 2009
HATTIESBURG, MISS.--The University of Memphis women's golf team is set to compete in the Lady Eagle Invitational hosted by Southern Miss this Monday and Tuesday, March 23-24. The tournament is being held at the Canebrake Golf Club, with a field of 12 teams: Birmingham Southern, Jackson State, Kentucky Wesleyan, Southern Miss, West Florida, Nicholls State, DePauw, Memphis, South Alabama, McNeese State, Arkansas State, and Belmont. This will be the first tournament for the Lady Tigers in over a month, as the College of Charleston Pinehurst Challenge was cancelled due to snow. Memphis's last competition was on February 17th at the Qdoba Invitational. "We're just eager to get back on the course and compete again," said Lady Tiger head coach Beth Harrelson. "It's been over a month since we've played in a tournament, and we're just excited to get back out there. Hopefully, all the time we have had to practice will translate into results." Senior Rachel Larson looks to lead the team this week at the Lady Eagle Invitational. In the Lady Tigers' last tournament, Larson narrowly missed a top-20 finish, carding rounds of 80-75-75 to finish 22nd. "Rachel has been playing really well lately," said Coach Harrelson. "I expect her to show some senior leadership this week." The Lady Tigers tee off in the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational Monday morning, March 23.
