Two Lady Tigers Named to Conference USA Women's Golf All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas- University of Memphis senior women's golfers Kathleen Glavin and Marissa Steen have been named to the Conference USA Women's Golf All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office on Thursday. Glavin, a native of Dayton, Ohio, earned C-USA All-Academic honors by boasting a 3.94 GPA, while studying within Memphis' exercise and sports science program. Glavin is a three-time NCGA All-America Scholar (2009-11) and was named Conference USA's Golfer of the Week on November 2, 2011, after leading Memphis to a first-place finish at the 2011 UAB Fall Beach Blast. At that tournament, Glavin captured her first career individual championship by firing career-best rounds of 72-76--148. Glavin is slated to graduate in August of this year, upon completion her major's internship program. Steen, a sports management major, earned her third-straight C-USA All-Academic Team selection by posting a 3.94 GPA. The West Chester, Ohio, native will graduate summa cum laude in Memphis' centennial commencement ceremony on May 5, 2012. On the course, Steen is recognized as one of the most accomplished golfers in program history. Throughout her time with the Lady Tigers, Steen has recorded six individual tournament victories, has been honored as C-USA's Golfer of the Week on five separate occasions, was C-USA's 2011 Championship runner-up and currently holds Memphis' single-season scoring record of 73.97 strokes per round. The U of M was the only team to place two student-athletes on this season's C-USA All-Academic Team. Memphis is set to travel to Gulf Shores, Ala., to compete in the 2012 Conference USA Championship, April 23-25. Tee times are slated for 7:30 a.m., on each of the tournament's three days of play, and live scoring is available via GolfStat.com. The winner of the C-USA Championship will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
