MEMPHIS - - The University of Memphis women's golf team had three student-athletes named to the C-USA All-Academic Team, Friday. The senior trio of Alex Alӓng, Julia Hodgson and Sarah Mathews were named to the five-person team.

"I am extremely proud of how hard these three young ladies have worked in the classroom, on the golf course and for the strong individuals that they have become," head coach Beth Harrelson said. "They represent the University of Memphis and our athletic program very well with tremendous work ethic and determination."

Alӓng will graduate Magna Cum Laude in May and carries a 3.57 GPA as an International business major. She has been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her seasons at Memphis. She is a four-time member of the Dean's List at Memphis and a member of the Tiger 3.0 Club every semester as a Tiger. She has been named a Tiger Academic 30 for having one of the 30 highest GPAs in the department in the fall of 2011 and was an NGCA All-American Scholar in 2012. The two-time C-USA Golfer of the Week was the individual medalist at the Lady Eagle Invitational hosted by Southern Miss. Alӓng, who hails from Tullinge, Sweden, posted a third-place finish at the Rainbow Wahine tournament and placed 11th at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate. She recorded her first career hole-in-one at the Ole Miss BankcorpSouth Rebel Intercollegiate.

Hodgson is a three-time National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete (2010, 2011, 2012), who boasts two semesters with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She has been named to the Dean's List at Memphis in six of her seven semesters and is a two-time recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal (2012, 2013). Hodgson, a native of Unionville, Ontario, has been a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll In each of her seasons as a Tiger and was tabbed CAAS Scholar Athlete of the Month in April of 2011. She is a three-time Tiger Academic 30 and a Tiger 3.0 club member every semester at Memphis. Hodgson will graduate Summa Cum Laude in May and maintains a 3.82 GPA as a communications major. A regular in the Memphis lineup, Hodgson placed 16th at the Rainbow Wahine Intercollegiate.

 

 

Mathews is scheduled to graduate Magna Cum Laude in May with a degree in accounting and has been a member of the Dean's List in six of seven semesters at Memphis. She posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall of 2010 and has been a member of the Tiger 3.0 club every semester to maintain a 3.731 GPA. Mathews has been recognized as a Tiger Academic 30 for having one of the 30 highest GPAs in the athletic department two times (Fall 2010, Fall 2012) and has been tabbed as a member of the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll each of her seasons at Memphis. She is a two-time C-USA Academic Medalist. One of two Tigers to participate in all five fall events, she is a three-time NGCA All-American Scholar (2010, 2011, 2012) with a best finish of 24th place finish at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.

The women's golf team will participate in the C-USA Women's Golf Championship, beginning Monday, at Gulf Shores, Ala.
