Steen Named First Team All-Conference USA
April 26, 2011
IRVING, Texas. - On the heels of her runner-up performance in the Conference USA Women's Golf Championship last week at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club, Marissa Steen has been named to C-USA's All-Conference First Team. "Marissa worked incredibly hard this season," University of Memphis women's golf coach Beth Harrelson said. "I'm so proud of her. The amount of dedication and time she put in was impressive." Steen earned medalist honors four times during the season and only finished outside the top-25 once. She was one of two golfers to post a round of 70 or better at the C-USA Championship and fought back from a rough first round to place second in the league finale. After receiving Second Team All-Conference accolades last year, she was C-USA's Player of the Week three times during her junior season. Steen also broke the U of M's single-season scoring record with an average of 73.97 strokes per round, besting the previous mark of 74.1, which was set by Stacey Tate in the 2005-06 season. Tulane sophomore Maribel Lopez Porras took home Player of the Year accolades, marking the third-consecutive year that a member of the Green Wave has earned the honor. UTEP head Coach Jere Pelletier was named Coach of the Year after guiding the team to its first C-USA title in program history. 2011 CONFERENCE USA WOMEN'S GOLF POSTSEASON AWARDS All-Conference USA First Team: Fanny Wolte, East Carolina Marissa Steen, Memphis Janine Fellows, Tulane Maribel Lopez Porras, Tulane Kristina Merkle, Tulsa All-Conference USA Second Team: Amber Littman, East Carolina Ashley McKenney, Tulane Marita Engzelius, Tulsa Shang-Fan Huang, UTEP Teresa Nogues, UTEP All-Conference USA Third Team: Amy Otteson, East Carolina Brandi Rodriguez, Southern Miss Linn Gustafsson, Tulane Kamryn Ruffin, Tulsa Carolin Pinneger, UCF Coach of the Year: Jere Pelletier, UTEP Player of the Year: Maribel Lopez Porras, Tulane Freshman of the Year: Fanny Wolte, East Carolina Newcomer of the Year: Meghan Chapman, Tulane
