Tate to Face World's Best
Aug. 2, 2006 Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis senior Stacey Tate will look to continue where she left off last spring, as she prepares for the 106th U.S. Women's Amateur next week at Pumpkin Hill Golf Club in North Plains, Ore. The Auckland, New Zealand native will tee off in the first round of stroke play at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 7th. Tate qualified for this year's prestigious tournament by virtue of a first-place, 65-shot finish at the regional qualifier at Atlanta's Chapel Hills Golf Club on July 12. Tate got used to first place last season when she took the top spot in three tournaments, placing in the top 10 in four others. After two rounds of stroke play at the U.S. Women's Amateur, the field will be cut to the low 64 scorers who will then advance to the match play portion of the tournament. The tournament will begin Monday and will conclude with the final match play event on August 13. The match play portions of the tournament will be broadcast by The Golf Channel.
