Lady Tigers Set to Open 2010-11 Campaign
Sept. 4, 2010
The University of Memphis women's golf team is set to open its season in a not so familiar location this week as the Lady Tigers travel to Bozeman, Mont. The Lady Tigers head north for a six-day trip where they will compete in the Bobcat Invitational along with a dual match against Cal State Fullerton. The U of M returns all five players that combined for the third-lowest tournament total in the 2010 C-USA Championship. The Lady Tigers posted a three-day total of 895 and finished fourth, improving four spots from its 2008 finish. The Lady Tigers also claimed victory at the UAB Fall Beach Bash and the USA Lady Jaguar Classic. It was the first multiple-win season for the program since the 1996-97 season when they won the Memphis Women's Invitational, the Lady Panther Invitational and the Conference USA Championship. Marissa Steen recorded the Lady Tigers first individual title since 2006 (Stacey Tate, Lady Eagle Invitational) by winning the USA Lady Jaguar Classic. All six golfers will make the trip, with one competing in the Bobcat Invitaitonal as an individual. Coach Harrelson has arranged private housing and field trips to places such as Yellowstone National Park in order to foster bonding amongst the Lady Tigers.
