MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis Lady Tigers shot a 305-307 – 612 in the first two rounds of the FedEx Memphis Women’s Intercollegiate on Friday. That score puts the team in 5th place, 12 shots behind co-leaders Samford and Middle Tennessee State, entering the final round on Tuesday at Ridgeway Country Club.
The Lady Tigers were led by Leighann Cabush and Shelby Sain on day one. Cabush, a freshman playing in her first collegiate tournament, shot a 75-74 – 149, and sits just three shots behind tournament leader Bailey Gray (73-73 – 146) of Samford. Sain shot a 76-75 – 151 and is in tied for ninth after day one.
The Samford Bulldogs, the two-time defending champions of this event, shot a two-round score of 600 and are tied with Middle Tennessee State for the lead.
All 12 teams played through hot temperatures and rainy weather throughout the day. The temperatures were in the 90s for most of the day, and play was suspended for about one hour during round one because of rain.
