Lady Tigers Face Tough Field at Mason Rudolph Championship

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women’s golf team will take to the course for the second time this season when they travel to Nashville for the highly competitive Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship. The Lady Tigers will compete against 14 other teams, including seven that were ranked in Golfstat’s top-25 at the end of last year, and three that were in the top-10.
The field is comprised of three top-10 teams, and four that are in Golfstat’s top-15 from a season ago. The University of North Carolina leads the field as they ranked 7th at the end of last season. Vanderbilt University and the University of Georgia were also in the top-10, at 8th and 9th, respectively. Texas A&M University (13th), the University of Virginia (17th), the University of Arizona (19th) and Texas (20th) were also in the top-25.
Other teams in the top-50, and in this weekend’s field, include Kentucky, Michigan State, Oregon, Stanford, Tulane and Wake Forest. Chattanooga and Memphis will also participate in the championship. Vanderbilt will serve as the host as the tournament is played on the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course. The par-72 course will play 6,451 yards for the championship.
The Lady Tigers are coming off a 10th-place finish at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational. Julia Hodgson led Memphis as she finished 27th after shooting a 228. The senior posted scores of 74-80-74 at the event. Other participants for the Lady Tigers include Ashleigh Whisenant who placed 38th with a 236, Ashley Kees, who shot 237 to place 42nd, Sarah Mathews who placed 45th with a 238, Natalie Turk who placed 52nd after shooting a 247 and Shelby Sain who shot 250 to place 54th.
The championship will be made up of three rounds, with the first round starting at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. The second round will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and the final round will get underway at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. Live scoring can be found on golfstat.com.
