Memphis Ready for 2010 UC Women's Fall Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn.— Fresh off a 34-stroke victory at the Bobcat Invitational in its first tournament of the season, the University of Memphis women’s golf team will seek to back-to-back championships this week at the 2010 UC Women’s Fall Invitational. Memphis posted a program-low 36-hole total of 579 (291-288) behind Marissa Steen’s rounds of 71-67. Steen’s performance was not only the lowest 36-hole individual total in school history, but it was also enough for medalist honors, beating out teammate Julia Hodgson 72-73—145) by seven strokes. Memphis finished sixth in the event last season and was paced by Marissa Steen’s (78-82-75--235) and Leslie Grabeman’s (81-79-75—235)10th place individual finishes. The Lady Tigers posted a 950 (319-325-306) three-round team total. Cincinnati beat out Morehead State in a playoff to claim the title at its oven event in 2009. The Bearcats posted scores of 320-310-307—937. This year’s event will be held at the par-72, 6,136 Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia, Ohio and features 15 teams from across the country: Akron, Austin Peay, Cincinnati, Evansville, Florida-International, Marsahall, Memphis, Morehead State, Murray State, Ohio, Penn State, Robert Morris, Southern Miss, Toledo, and UT-Pan Am. Golfers will play 36 holes Monday and 18 Tuesday with pairings each day following a shotgun format.
