Lady Tigers Travel to Knoxville for Mercedes Benz Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After a couple weeks off, the University of Memphis women's golf team travels to Knoxville, Tenn., to play in the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championships, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Holston Hills Country Club. The field is comprised of 15 teams, six of which are in the top-50 of Golfstat's latest rankings.
Northwestern University leads the tournament field with their ranking of 10 while Iowa State University isn't far behind at 14. Texas A&M University and Tennessee are next at 23 and 27, respectively. Penn State University and East Carolina University round out teams that rank in the top-50, ranking 31 and 48, respectively.
Other teams competing in the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championships include, Eastern Kentucky University, Furman University, Florida State University, James Madison University, Memphis, University of Miami, Mississippi State University, Purdue University, Chattanooga, and UT-San Antonio.
Six golfers will be competing for the Lady Tigers, including Alex Aläng, Sarah Mathews, Natalie Turk, Ashley Kees, and Shelby Sain in the team event, while Julia Gerlach will be competing as an individual in her first career event. Mathews and Kees have participated in both of Memphis' tournaments so far this season while Aläng played in the Lady Tigers' last event, the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship. Kees, Turk and Sain all participated in Memphis' first tournament, the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational.The tournament will be played on the par-72, 6,447 yard course at Holston Hills Country Club. The Lady Tigers will tee off at the 10th hole on Friday with James Madison and Penn State, starting at 9:00 a.m. eastern time. The second and third rounds will also begin at 9:00 a.m. eastern time on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
