Just one week removed from its highest finish under second-year head coach Beth Harrelson, the University of Memphis women’s golf team travels to Charleston, S.C. to compete in the 2009 Wendy’s Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern. The event is being held at the prestigious Coosaw Creek Country Club.

The Lady Tigers will be competing against 14 other schools this week: Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina, Presbyterian, High Point, Winthrop, College of Charleston, The Citadel, Florida Gulf Coast, UAB, South Carolina State, Armstrong Atlantic State, Carson-Newman, Methodist, and Carolina-Beaufort.

The five golfers competing for Memphis this week will be: Leslie Grabeman, Marissa Steen, Julia Hodgson, Sarah Mathews, and Alex Aläng. Sophomore Kathleen Glavin is out this week with a back injury.

Grabeman comes into this week playing the best golf of her career. After two consecutive top-10 finishes (T4 at Lady Red Wolf Classic and T-10 at Cincinnati Fall Classic), she looks to lead the team again this week. Steen also comes off two straight top-10 finishes (T8 at Lady Red Wolf Classic and T-10 at Cincinnati Fall Classic).

CSU captured last season’s team title by four strokes over Coastal Carolina. CSU’s Olivia Jordan-Higgins took medalist honors after winning a playoff over Radford’s Hannah Coles.
