Lady Tigers Host FedEx Memphis Women's Intercollegiate

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - For the third straight year, the University of Memphis women's golf team will host a home tournament at Ridgeway Country Club in Germantown, Tenn. The Lady Tigers will welcome 13 teams to the FedEx Memphis Women's Intercollegiate that will take place on October 22 and 23. The 2012 FedEx Memphis Women's Intercollegiate will consist of 12 NCAA Division I teams, two NCAA Division II teams and one junior college. Including the host Lady Tigers, the other 11 Division I teams include the University of Central Arkansas, Marshall University, Missouri State University, University of Montana, Samford University, Sam Houston State University, Stephen F. Austin University, UAB, UL-Monroe and Xavier University. Drury University and Lewis University are the two Division II representatives and Redlands Community College will round out the field. All eight Lady Tigers will compete in the event. Alex Aläng, Julia Hodgson, Julia Gerlach, Sarah Mathews and Ashley Kees will make up Memphis' team while Shelby Sain, Natalie Turk and Ashleigh Whisenant will participate as individuals. The tournament will consist of three rounds played over two days at Ridgeway Country Club. The par-71 course will play at 6,150 yards. There will be a shotgun start for all three rounds, with rounds one and three starting at 8:00 a.m. The second round will take place on Monday following the conclusion of the first round. There will be an awards ceremony at 2:00 p.m. followed the conclusion of play on Tuesday. Last year, Memphis and Samford tied for the tournament title with team scores of 913. Memphis' Marissa Steen took home individual medalist honors with a score of 215. In 2010, Illinois won the two-round event with a score of 615.
