MEMPHIS — The University of Memphis women’s golf team will travel to Gulf Shores, Ala. Nov. 1-2 to defend its title at the UAB Fall Beach Blast.

Memphis posted team scores of 300-295 to claim victory in the 12-team field a year ago. Sarah Mathews paced the Lady Tigers with scores of 74-73 and a runner-up individual finish at the par-72, 5,974-yard Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club.

The victory was the first under Coach Harrelson and the first for the program since the 2007 C-USA Championship. Memphis has since captured two additional team titles (2010 USA Lady Jaguar Classic and the 2010 Bobcat Invitational).

This year’s field consists of eight schools: Austin Peay, Belmont, Louisiana-Monroe, Marshall, Memphis, Tennessee Tech, UAB, West Florida.

The Lady Tigers are coming off a co-runner-up showing at the Memphis Women’s Invitational and look to claim their second victory of the season after winning the Bobcat Invitational to start the 2010-11 campaign.
