Women's Golf to Conclude Fall Season at Augusta State
Nov. 5, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After three consecutive top-five finishes the University of Memphis women's golf team enters the America's Choice Mortgage Lady Jaguar Invitational on Monday as the No. 40 team in the nation according to Golfstat. The Lady Tigers will try to make it four-in-a-row when they tee off in their final fall tournament on Monday. Memphis got off to a slow start by finishing sixth at the Badger Women's Golf Invitational Sept.10-11. However, the team quickly rebounded to finish fifth at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate on Sept. 25-26. The Lady Tigers broke through with their first tournament victory of the fall at the Wildcat Fall Invitational Sept. 30-Oct. 1 and followed that up with a second-place finish at the Lady Paladin Invitational Oct. 6-8. Senior Stacey Tate has led the way for the Lady Tigers as the team's low-scorer during their last three tournaments and will golf from the number one spot in the Memphis lineup again on Monday. Tate recorded a fourth-place finish at the Wildcat Fall Invitational and a third-place finish at the Lady Paladin. Sophomore Rachel Larson will golf from the number two spot this week after recording her third top-20 finish of the fall at the Lady Paladin. Larson has proven to be a consistent performer this fall. After opening the season by tying for 19th, Larson placed 40th at the Ron Moore. However, a tie for fifth helped the Lady Tigers to their victory at the Wildcat Fall Invitational, and a tie for 17th at the Lady Paladin gave Larson her third top-five of the year. Junior Dawn-Marie Conaty opened the fall with a tie for 15th at the Badger Invitational, and has narrowly missed the top-20 in the Lady Tigers last two tournaments. The Dublin, Ireland, native will look to turn in another solid round as the number three golfer in the Memphis lineup. Senior Kathryn O'Rourke will golf as the number four on Monday and will look to regain the form that led her to a tie for 12th place as Memphis' lowest finisher at the Badger Invitational. Senior Cameron Barber rounds out the Lady Tiger lineup as the number five golfer and has finished fourth in the team's last two tournaments. However, the Highlands Ranch, Colo., native showed the ability to post low rounds when she was the second-lowest Memphis finisher at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate. The America's Choice Lady Jaguar Invitational hosted by Augusta State begins tomorrow with 18 holes of play. Monday's tee times start at 8:00 a.m. central time off the front and back nine at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. Tuesday's second round will consist of an 18-hole shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. central time. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
