Senior Alex Aläng is in the spotlight for the sixth installment of our 10 questions series. The Tullinge, Sweden native capped off a successful fall with a third place finish at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, where she posted a 219 (71-74-74). With her first round score, Aläng matched her career low of 71. Aläng was also named Conference USA Women’s Golfer of the Week twice during the fall season. She won her first weekly award of the season on October 17 after shooting 73-73-72 (218) at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate, and took home the award for the second time on November 7 after her performance at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.

  1. Why did you choose Memphis?
I chose to come to Memphis because the weather is much warmer than what we have in Sweden. I also came to get the opportunity to play the great courses we have in Memphis.

  2. What’s your favorite class at Memphis so far?
    Legal/social/political environment accounting class.

  3. Other than golf, what sport would you be playing?
If I didn't play golf I would probably still play floorball back in Sweden during the summer season, and during winter I would ski.

  4. What is the best golf advice you have received?
Just hit it! (What my swing coach normally tells me when I tend to make it too complicated)

  5. If you could play a round of golf with anyone, who would it be?
If I could pick a foursome, I would play with Annika Sörenstam and Sergio Garcia, and my friend Malin Jansson. I would pick Sergio and Annika because I can learn so much from their game, and Malin because we always have such a good time playing and practicing together.

  6. Who is your golf role model and why?
I have many role models, but if I had to pick one I would say Annika Sörenstam because the way she makes great golf look easy.

  7. If you were stranded on an island, what is one item you would take with you?
I would bring a good friend for the company and the good laughter.

  8. If there was a team American Idol competition, who would win, why? Who would finish last, why?
This is a though question, but I have a feeling Sarah Mathews would win because she likes to sing. Last spot I am not really sure, but I might come in last because I can't sing unless it's in the shower.

  9. If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?
I would be a white tiger because I like how tigers are elegant and mysterious at the same time. I'll pick a white tiger because I like to play in all white.

  10. Do you have any pre-round superstitions? During round superstitions? What are they?
Before the round I always warm up hitting and putting the same amount of balls. During the round I have different mantras, depending on how I feel and what type of shot it is, that I like to tell myself.
