Women's Soccer Opens Spring With 1-1 Tie Against Vandy
Feb. 24, 2007
MEMPHIS - The Memphis Lady Tiger soccer team opened its 2007 spring soccer schedule Saturday with a 1-1 tie against Vanderbilt. A second game against Middle Tennessee had to be called off 15 minutes into play due to weather. Memphis got off to a slow start against the Commodores, giving up an early goal only two-minutes into the match. "We started off really slow," Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "We really just came out flat and let them get the momentum early." In the second half Memphis regrouped and took control of the action. Sophomore Lia Fannin came up with the Lady Tigers lone goal to even the match. Monaghan was pleased with the effort his team showed in the second half. "We came out with a lot more energy in the second half," said Monaghan. "Overall, I was happy with the way we played. Everybody got an equal amount of minutes, and there were some good performances. Obviously, you always want to win, but I was pleased with our effort in the second half. "It felt good to get out there and play. We hadn't been on the field since November, and it was good to get back on the field again." Memphis will have a break before resuming its spring campaign at Ole Miss on March 24. The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play the Rebels at 10 a.m. and UL-Monroe at 1p.m.
