Women's Soccer Plays Well in Spring Doubleheader at Ole Miss
March 24, 2007
MEMPHIS - The Memphis women's soccer team blew past UL-Monroe 5-0 and battled a tough Ole Miss squad to 1-1 draw in spring action Saturday. The Lady Tigers played UL-Monroe in an eight-aside match with 30-minute halves. Junior Kylie Hayes and senior Harumi Someya each chipped in a pair of goals, and sophomore forward Tori Dalton tacked on one score. "I think I saw some good things today," Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "I was really proud of the way we played in the first match. Playing with just eight players is definitely not something we're used to doing. In that respect I thought the girls did really well." Memphis fought Ole Miss through a scoreless first half, before Hays broke the scoring drought just one minute into the second period. The Rebels would tie the match two minutes later on a penalty kick. "We played really well individually," Monaghan said. "Ole Miss probably got the better of the match, but I think we played alright as a team. We have a lot of respect for Ole Miss, and they're a strong program." Memphis will next play Irish prep team Colaiste Ide on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
