Memphis, Tenn. - Freshman forward Rasheeda Ansari scored a pair of goals for the 18th-ranked University of Memphis women’s soccer team as the Lady Tigers knocked off Samford 3-0 at Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Sunday.

Ansari opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a goal off of one of Memphis’ six first half corner kicks. Freshman midfielder Christabel Oduro assisted Ansari on her first goal of the season as Ansari found the ball and played it to the left post past Samford keeper Alyssa Whithead.

Senior Laura Laufenberg scored her eighth career goal in the 48th minute to give the Lady Tigers the 2-0 edge early in the second half. Senior’s Ashley Berra and Krista Turner were credited with assists on the Laufenberg goal.

Ansari connected on her second goal of the night in the 58th minute. The Lithonia, Ga., native played the ball inside the box and found the back right post for her second career goal.

Junior keeper Jordan Boyle recorded her fifth career shutout, earning her second victory of the season. Boyle finished the night with four saves and the Lady Tiger defense limited Samford to five shots in the match. Whitehead made seven saves on Memphis’ 10 shots on goal.

The Lady Tigers return to Mike Rose Soccer Complex on Saturday night as they host LSU at 7 p.m. as part of Memphis women’s soccer Alumni night.
