The Memphis Women's Soccer Team Falls to Hurricanes
Sept. 7, 2008
Memphis, Tenn. - The Lady Tigers took on the Miami Hurricanes this afternoon at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. The final score of today's contest was 3-0 in favor of the Hurricanes. Lauren Singer scored her first two goals of the 2008 season today and Brittney Steinbruch also notched her sixth goal of the season this afternoon.
Although the scoreboard signified a 3-0 shutout, Head Coach Brooks Monaghan felt as if his team played much better than the final score would signify.
"I actually thought that we didn't play that bad," Monaghan said. "We possessed the ball and did some good things, but give credit to Miami because they capitalized on our mistakes. The first goal was a give-away and they punished. The second goal was very poor defending on our part. We started pushing from then on and they scored the last goal."
Coming off a difficult game on Friday against rival Ole Miss where the Lady Tigers left everything on the field, Monaghan spoke about what he expects from his team on Sundays.
"We need to find a way to win on Sundays," Monaghan stated. "The second game is always the toughest, but we have to grit it out. That is what we talked about at half time and sometimes you have to suck it up and just work harder. The team did pick it up and play hard, but we did let in some soft goals. Elise (Kuhar-Pitters) struggled a little bit today and that affected us. Definitely give credit to Miami because they did what they needed to."
The Oklahoma Sooners and the Colorado Buffalos come to Mike Rose next weekend. The Lady Tigers will face off against the Sooners at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12 evening and then take on the Buffalos a week from today on Sunday, Sept. 14. at 1:00 p.m.
