Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision At Evansville
Sept. 8, 2001 EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Memphis women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Evansville Purple Aces at Black Beauty Field Saturday morning. Originally slated for Friday evening, the contest was rescheduled for 9 a.m. today due to lightning storms in the Evansville, Ind., area last night. The loss comes as the Lady Tigers' first shutout of the season and was at the hands of a well-repected Evansville team. The Purple Aces have won five-straight Missouri Valley Conference titles and were rated the No. 9 team in the Great Lakes Region by CollegeSoccer.com last week. "We played a decent game against a very strong team," said Memphis coach Brooks Monaghan. "Evansville beat some great teams last season, including Saint Louis who took the Conference USA title last year." "This was a good test for us early into the season," Monaghan said of his Lady Tigers, who fell to 0-2-1 on the season.
Memphis is back in action when it takes on UT-Martin at Echles Field at 5 p.m. Sunday evening.
