BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Lady Tigers soccer team battled Samford in a 1-0 loss, at the Long's Electronic Samford Classic, in Birmingham, Ala. tonight in the final round of the tournament. Memphis went 0-2 in the tournament finishing fourth, totaling their overall record to 2-2-0.

Samford's Lauren Cook knotched a header past the goalkeeper, off a shot deflected off the crossbar in the first half, to give the Bulldogs the only goal of the game.

Memphis had 14 shots in the game compared to Samford's six shots, but could not capatalize. The Lady Tigers rallied for a comeback, but a shot late in the game by junior Emiko Schwab went wide right and Memphis was not able to score.

Freshman forwards Melissa Smith and Vendula Strnadova received All-Tournament accolades for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers take a week off before returning to action on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. at the University of Alabama to go up against the Crimson Tide.
