No. 21 Nebraska Blanks Lady Tigers 3-0 In Women's Soccer
Oct. 11, 2002 Lincoln, Neb. - The University of Memphis women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 21 Nebraska Friday at the Abbotts Sports Complex. Junior goalkeeper Katarina Wicksell had a busy night in net for the Lady Tigers (5-6-1) as the Cornhuskers outshot Memphis 33-7. Wicksell was just one save short of the Memphis school-record for saves in a game stopping 14 Nebraska (6-4-3) shots in the match. The Cornhuskers' Kori Saunders broke a scoreless when she scored unassisted in the 34th minute. Nebraska quickly made it a 2-0 lead in the 40th minute on the first of two goals for Nikki Baker. Senior Alison Baker, who is ranked third in Conference-USA with 42 shots, posted three of the seven Lady Tigers shots including the only two attempts on goal, but Memphis could get nothing past NU goalkeeper Erin Miller. NU's Baker added the third and final goal for the Cornhuskers in the 66th minute on an assist from Miller.
The loss to Nebraska concludes a stretch of three straight non-conference matches for Memphis. The Lady Tigers returnt to leauge action Sunday with a match against South Florida at 1 p.m., in Tampa.
