MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The U of M Lady Tiger soccer team (3-9-1, 1-4-0 C-USA) dropped a tight league decision to the visting Lady Eagles of Southern Miss on Friday evening, 2-1.

Despite cruising into halftime after grabbing an early 1-0 lead off forward Michelle Sorensen's unassited strike at the 10:10 mark, Memphis allowed two second half goals from the opposition and lost their fourth consecutive match.

In a close and relatively even first period both teams could muster only one shot each, with the momentum clearly in the Lady Tigers' favor entering the intermission. But, the Lady Eagles applied constant offensive pressure and fired 11 second half shots which prompted four saves from U of M goalkeeper Katarina Wicksell and preserved a happy ending for USM.

Leila McReynolds led the way for USM with a goal and an assist while Tricia Wiles recorded the game-winner just eight minutes after McReynolds' unassisted goal, and capitolized on a loose ball inside the penalty box during the 66th minute.

Forward Becca Amrozowicz paced the Memphis offense with a team-high three shots but received little help from her teammates who mustered just four other scoring opportunities throughout the entire match.

Southern Miss came into tonight's contest winless within C-USA play, but improved to 1-4 in that department and 7-4 overall.

Forward Ali Baker was inactive in tonight's loss due to a suspension being served for a red card infraction which occurred during the Tennessee Tech match, earlier this week.

The Uof M must now re-group before hosting yet another league opponent later this weekend, when the Green Wave of Tulane visit Echles Field this Sunday, Oct. 14. Memphis will attempt to abandon their current slump and repeat last season's success when the Lady Tigers grabbed their lone conference road victory with a 3-2 win in the Big Easy. Game time is 1 p.m. CDT
