Tampa, Fla. - South Florida took advantage of an early goal in its match with Memphis to hold and defeat the Lady Tigers 2-0 at the USF Soccer Stadium Sunday.

Tia Opliger gave the Bulls (5-7-1, 1-4-1) a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when she put a rebound past UM goalkeeper Katarina Wicksell from five yards out. The Lady Tigers (5-7-1, 1-4-0) could not mount much offense in the first half getting only three shots off compared to six for South Florida.

Memphis was able to outshoot the home team seven to six in the second half, but the Lady Tigers could not get a shot past USF goalkeeper Breck Bankester who made two saves in the final 45 minutes to secure the shutout. Leanne McGee, Susannah Wells and Alison Baker led the Lady Tigers with two shots a piece.

Kim Martins sealed the victory for South Florida in the 57th minute when she buried a rebound off a Katie Reed for a 2-0 Bulls' lead.

Wicksell made five saves for the Lady Tigers while Bankester made two.

Memphis returns to action Friday, Oct. 18, when the Lady Tigers will conclude their seven-game road trip with a 4 p.m. match at Southern Miss. The Lady Tigers return home Sunday, Oct. 20, for a 1 p.m. match with UAB.
