Green Wave Capsizes Lady Tigers, 1-0
Oct. 14, 2001
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis women's soccer dropped its fifth-straight and fell to 3-10-1 (1-5, C-USA) after a 1-0 loss to Tulane at Echles Field on Sunday afternoon.
The hard-luck Lady Tigers lost in heartbreaking fashion, as the only goal scored in the match was by a Memphis defender on her own goal.
At 78:05, Green Wave midfielder Mandy Schumacher flipped a ball over a pair of Lady Tiger defenders and Tulane forwards Lindsay Morris and Jacque Graber collided in front of the net on what looked to be the Green Wave's best scoring chance of the afternoon. But as the ball rolled dangerously closer to the right post, a Lady Tiger defender put a ball in the left corner in an attempt to clear.
Tulane had a chance to pad its lead less than two minutes later when midfielder Colleen Lake was one-on-one with Memphis keeper Katarina Wicksell. Lake Drilled an attempt toward the left post, but Wicksell dove to her right, for a spectacular save that kept the Lady Tigers within reach.
Memphis is back in action on Friday for a match with the Cougars in Houston at 7 p.m.
