Lady Tigers Drop 1-0 Heartbreaker to Colorado College
Oct. 14, 2006
MEMPHIS - The Lady Tiger soccer team's five match unbeaten streak came to an end Friday when the Lady Tigers dropped a 1-0 decision to Colorado College. Memphis (7-5-2, 3-1-1 C-USA) fell behind early when Colorado College's Molly Uyenishi knocked in a rebound off of a corner kick just 12 minutes into the match. "I was a little disappointed with the way we started the match," said Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan. "I don't think we came out with a lot of focus. Credit Colorado College because they are a talented team. We got behind early, and then we had to chase them for the rest of the match." Colorado College dominated the first 20 minutes of play, attempting four corner kicks in the first 12 minutes alone. Colorado College out shot Memphis 7-4 in the first half. Memphis was able to keep the match close, and out shot Colorado College 8-5 in the second period. The win improves Colorado College's record to 11-2-1 overall and 4-1 in C-USA play, and assures the Colorado Tigers no worse than a tie for first place in the league standings heading into Sunday's matches. Memphis must now turn around and travel to El Paso, Texas to face a talented UTEP squad. The Miners enter the match on a three game winning streak after beating UAB 3-2 on Friday. "We just have to regroup for our match Sunday," said Monaghan. "UTEP is another really good team, and it's going to be tough match." Kickoff for Sunday's match is set for 1 p.m. (CST).
