MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's soccer team battled UCF, to a 2-1 double overtime loss, today. The Lady Tigers put their undefeated streak at home up to test, and were defeated by UCF, in a tough match up.

Twenty seconds into the second overtime period, UCF's Courtney Whidden connected with the ball from about 25 yards out, to give UCF the win. This is the Lady Tigers first C-USA loss and their first loss at home this season.

"Today was a very tough one, we aren't used to losing," said Coach Monaghan. "You have to give credit to UCF, they kept fighting and fighting in overtime and it was a great goal."

UCF got on the board first with a header from Sarah DeLeon, five minutes into the match. With an assist from Hanna Wilde, DeLeon netted the ball in from five yards out.

Defender Caroline Barrett got the Lady Tigers on the scoreboard with a kick from 25 yards out, after connecting on an assist from Krista Turner, to bring the game to, 1-1.

At the end of regulation, the match was tied 1-1. It was a tough game as both teams combined for 26 fouls. Memphis led on shots with 18, while they held the Knights to six.

"I'm really proud of our group," added Monaghan. "The way the game went, we created a lot of chances to score, but today just wasn't our day. The shot they took in the end was a great shot, she was open and she made it. Today's game hurt, but hopefully by Tuesday we will be able to bounce back and be ready for next weekend."

 

 

The Lady Tigers have wrapped up their 2007 home season play. They went 9-1, posting their best record ever at home, and have also broken a 13-game unbeaten streak at home.

The Lady Tigers are back in action next weekend for the final week of regular season play. They will travel to Marshall on Friday, Nov. 2 for a 7 p.m. game and then go to East Carolina for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m.
