(1) Memphis 3 vs. (5) East Carolina 0
Memphis Head Coach Brooks Monaghan
Credit to East Carolina. They played really well. I think the game was closer than the score (indicated). They are a very good team, and they played us hard.
About Memphis' Speed on the Edges
We have some players with a lot of speed out there. If Christabel Odoro and Rasheeda Ansari are out there, you have to watch their speed, and if you put K.K. (Kaitlyn Atkins) out there, she is going to beat you on the dribble. We are very dangerous on the corners.
About Advancing to the Championship Game
That was one of our goals (this year). Obviously, we want to win every game, and that is what we did. We are looking forward to the game on Sunday. It is going to be against a tough team with some very talented players.
East Carolina Head Coach Rob Donnenwirth
We played really hard. We ran up against the best Conference USA team I've seen, and I've been here for a while. I think this Memphis team--what Brooks (Monaghan) has going on--is a pretty special group. I felt there were moments in the game where we had them under some pressure, but they make you work, and they made us work for everything. It's hard for me right now because this senior group was a special group for me and I appreciate everything they did.
I thought we had a lot of good performances this tournament with our goalkeeper. Christiane Cordero was pretty amazing throughout the whole tournament. We just couldn't find that final shot or that final pass that we needed at times, but it wasn't from lack of effort, and I'm proud of how the team played.
It was a good season. Right now it stings. But we'll have a lot of good memories from the season, because at one point we were 1-5 in the conference, and they turned it around and got to where they battled against one of the best teams in the country and played a pretty good game.
