Postgame Quotes

Memphis Head Coach Brooks Monaghan

Opening Remarks
You have to give credit to their goal keeper (Sara Dilling). If they had an average keeper we definitely wouldn't have had such trouble. I am just really proud of our kids. They gritted it out and I thought we stayed composed. Even when they scored, we stayed very composed. The chances were there, we just didn't finish them. But, finally in the end we did.

About completing an undefeated season
That was one of our goals going into the season. Now, how realistic of a goal was that? I didn't know. But, I did know that we had a group of hard workers, and we always tell our girls that hard work pays off. I can't say enough great things about the character of this group, and we are just going to try to keep this thing going as long as we can.

On earning a bid to the NCAA tournament
I like our chances, and this win should solidify a pretty good seeding for us. That is what it is all about, securing a good seed. Hopefully we will be back here (in Memphis) next week.

UTEP Head Coach Kevin Cross

On the season as a whole and making it to the conference tournament
"I am super proud of our team. They showed the heart and character that we knew that they had. During conference we had a few tight games and tied a few that we were winning so we put it all together and got healthy in the tournament."

On heading into the championship game against four-year defending C-USA Champions Memphis
"We just believed. We had beaten them last year, so we knew that if we played our very best soccer we could beat them. But we also recognize that they are an awesome team, ranked No. 4 in the country, a phenomenal team, well coached; they are awesome, there is no doubt about it."

On going into overtime in the championship game:
"I thought that we could get some momentum in it and we could pull it out. It really hurts losing in overtime and is a tough way to end a season."

On overlooking the past season as a whole and ending in the conference championship game:
"We were seven minutes away from going to PKs or getting an opportunity to win it. We were really close and we have a young team. I told them that I was really proud of them and I couldn't ask any more of them. They had an excellent season."
