MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Friday that Northgate High midfielder Sarah Daane has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Tigers. Daane is the third of 13 signees for the 2011-12 signing class.

“Sarah is a player we recruited to play defensive center mid,” Monaghan said. “Sarah has a very good presence and she is excellent in the air. She has a bit of nastiness to her game, which is something we have lacked recently. She is a ball winning center mid who is a good distributor of the ball. She is also versatile in the fact that we could play her in the back. We recruited her as a true defensive center mid and we probably haven’t had that in the last three or four years. She is going to be a strong presence in there. She has the ability to come in and make an immediate impact in an area we feel like we have been lacking a bit in the last few years.”

A Phoenix, Ariz. native, Daane was a four-year letter-winner and all-state midfielder at Northgate High. On the club level, Daane spent time with club team GSA Phoenix Red that has won six state championships. She is also a member of the Georgia ODP State Team and Region III Team. Played with current Lady Tiger forward Rasheeda Ansari with the GSA Phoenix Red squad.

Daane is the daughter of Peter and Kari Daane.
