MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis women’s soccer head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Tuesday that Nelson High School standout Elysia Masters has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Tigers. Masters is the fourth of 11 signees announced by Monaghan.
Masters started for two years on the Nelson High School Varsity Team and participated in several events in the US, including the 2010 Disney Showcase Tournament. The Burlington, Ontario native is a member of the Canadian national training camp. Masters played for coach Dino Lopez and the Oakville Titans club team.
“Elysia is a player that we found late in the recruiting cycle and each time I was able to see her play, she continued to get better and better,” Monaghan said. “She is a tireless worker and we look to have her play outside forward. She meets the mold of what we look for in an outside forward due to her speed and the amount of effort she plays with. Players like Elysia, find themselves getting minutes early because of the work rate. She is a player that I expect to improve as she works in our environment everyday.”
Elysia is the daughter of David Masters and Heidi Bryck. She plans to major in science focusing on biology, biochemistry or biomedical engineering.
