Feb. 7, 2013
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis women's soccer head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Thursday that Collierville, Tenn., native McKenzie Bricker has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Tigers. Bricker is the first announced signee in the 2013-14 class.
"We have very high expectations for McKenzie," Monaghan said. "I've been able to see her play a lot with her being a local product and we've known for a long time that we wanted her to be a Tiger. We feel that McKenzie has the ability to contribute to this team right away. McKenzie is a soccer nut and every coach out there is looking for this quality in a player. She not only understands the game from a tactical sense; she possesses the tools that will make her a very good college player. McKenzie plays within the club that I coach and I know her family well. She is a player that we knew from the get go, we had to get here."
A 2011 Commercial Appeal Best of the Prep's Finalist, Bricker had three standout seasons at Collierville High School. Bricker helped Collierville High to the Tennessee State quarterfinals in all three seasons as a forward and center-midfielder. In 2011, she scored 16 goals and added three assists, earning all-state recognition as well as a Tennessee All-Star on ESPNHS Girls Soccer All-State teams. Last fall, she opted out of her final year of high school to play for the Gwinnett Soccer Club in Gwinnett, Georgia. She competed in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) and had two goals and a team-high eight assists in 17 games.
"I have a lot of respect for the decision that McKenzie made in regards to sitting out her senior year of high school. I know this was not easy for her. She felt that it was the best decision for her in order to prepare herself for the next level."
Bricker has been on the Tennessee ODP squad since 2006 and was a member of the Region 3 ODP team in 2009 and 2011. She participated in the U.S. Women's National Team camp training in February of 2012 and was a member of the U15 US National Team in 2009-10. On the club level, Bricker played for the Collierville Soccer Association and the Lady Lobos. She helped the Lobos advance to the state finals the last three seasons, winning the championship in 2010 and 2012.
Bricker enjoys reading, playing guitar and listening to music. She is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Young Life and was named the Principles Honor Roll the last three years of high school.
