MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Wednesday that John Paul II High School defender Katie Donahue has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Tigers. Donahue is the sixth of 13 signees for the 2011-12 signing class.

“She is another player we think can come in and make an immediate impact on this program,” Monaghan said. “She was recruited as a left back and has a lot of experience there after playing at a high level with her club team. She is another player that is not afraid to get stuck in on the tackle and loves to play forward. She serves a great ball and is very good in the air. She is the type of player that we look for as an outside back. I think Katie has a lot of potential and the right mentality and I think she has a very bright future as a Lady Tiger.”

Donahue, a Dallas, Texas native, led her prep squad to back-to-back Texas state titles, earning first team all-district and all-state honors in the process. Donahue continued her winning ways throughout her club career as well, leading Sting Royal 93 to a 2007Club National Championship. Coached by Kenny Medina, the Sting '93 also claimed the Region III title in 2007. Donahue is the daughter of Dan and Cathy Donahue.
