Women's Soccer Adds Tara Telford to 2008 Signing Class

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Tara Telford of St. Albert, Alberta, Canada signed a national letter of intent with the University of Memphis women's soccer team. She is the first 2008 Canadian recruit to sign with the championship lady tiger squad.
Telford plays club for the Edmonton Angels and the Edmonton Strikers. She is coached by Kevin Poissant. Her team was named the 2007 Outdoor Provincial Champions, and she attended the club nationals in 2007. They also won the Indoor Provincial Championship in 2004, 2006 and 2007.
Telford played for the Alberta Provincial Team from 2003-2006. She was named captain of her team in 2004, while winning two bronze medals at nationals. She moved up an age group in 2005. She was a part of the 2005 Western Canada Training Camp. Tara is currently a member of the U-20 Canadian National Pool and has been a member of the Canadian Youth National Pool since 2004.
At Bellerose Composite High School, Telford played midfield on the varsity squad for Coach Mike Thompson. In 2007, she was named Most Valuable Player.
She is the daughter of Brian and Susan Telford. She has an older sister, Angela. Telford has recorded academic honors every year of high school.
"Tara will definitely come in and add depth to our midfield. She is the type of player that gets the job done," said Head Coach Brooks Monaghan. "She is a very consistent player, who reads the game well and is technically and tactically very sound. Overall she is a very good midfielder. We will look for her to play defensive center mid. She is a hard nose, hard working and very mature player that will make our team better."
