Women's Soccer Signs Summer Schafer
Feb. 12, 2013
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Eclipse Select player Summer Schafer has signed her National Letter of Intent to join University of Memphis women's soccer for the 2013-14 season, head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Tuesday.
"We are excited to have Summer joining our program as she comes from one of the top club teams in the country," Monaghan said. "It's always nice to have a player join your program that comes from a great environment. Summer is a player that we see as versatile, playing outside mid or outside forward. We are confident in her ability to score goals. She has a very good understanding of the game and has a very good work rate. She is definitely going to add depth to our team, whether it's in the midfield or up front."
Schafer attended Downers Grove North High School in Oak Brook, Ill., but elected not to play soccer in high school to focus on club soccer year round. Playing for Eclipse Select, Schafer helped the club to first place in ECNL play in 2010 with 13 goals during the season. She attended National Camp in 2010 and was a Regional ODP pool player in 2008 and 2009. Schafer is a three-year member of the Illinois ODP State Team and her team won the Illinois State Cup in 2011.
Excelling in the classroom, Schafer has been on the Honor Roll the last four years. She also earned an academic letter in 2010.
